Ingredients:

  • ¼ cup popcorn kernels
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • ½ tsp sea salt

Method:

Start Cooking
  • Add the olive oil and 3 popcorn kernels to a large pot with a lid.
  • Cover and heat over medium heat.
  • When the 3 kernels pop, add the remaining popcorn kernels.
  • Cover and continue cooking, gently shaking the pot occasionally.
  • When the popping slows to 2–3 seconds between pops, remove from the heat.
  • Carefully remove the lid and season with salt to taste.
  • Serve warm and enjoy. Bon appétit.

Notes:

From the kitchen
  • Choose fresh, high-quality popcorn kernels for the best popping results. Older kernels may leave more unpopped pieces behind.
  • Yellow kernels pop up larger and sturdier, while white kernels are smaller and more tender.
  • Avoid adding dry seasonings to the pot with the kernels, as they can burn during cooking.
  • Butter can be used for popping, but it burns more easily than oil. For the most reliable results, olive oil is recommended.
  • If your stove runs hot, use light olive oil or a blend of olive oil and avocado oil to prevent smoking.
  • ¼ cup of kernels makes about 8 cups of popped popcorn.

Make it yours
  • For a buttery version, pop the kernels in olive oil, then drizzle with melted butter after popping and toss to coat (Butter can burn if used for popping.)
  • Add Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, smoked paprika, or ranch seasoning immediately after popping while the popcorn is still warm so the seasonings stick better.
  • For a sweet version, drizzle with a little melted butter and sprinkle with 1 tablespoon sugar and ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon.
  • Try a pinch of cayenne pepper or chili powder for a little heat. Drizzle 1–2 teaspoons Sriracha sauce over the warm popcorn and toss to coat.

At the table
  • Perfect for movie nights, game days, after-school snacks, or whenever you’re craving something simple and satisfying.

FROM THE PANTRY

Popcorn kernels

WHY WE LOVE IT

Popcorn is simple, affordable, quick to prepare, endlessly customizable, and perfect for everything from movie nights to afternoon snacking.

A LITTLE STORY

Archaeologists have discovered popcorn kernels in the Americas dating back more than 5,000 years, making it one of the oldest snack foods still enjoyed today.

DID YOU KNOW?

When heated, the tiny amount of water trapped inside each popcorn kernel turns to steam. As pressure builds, the kernel bursts open, creating the fluffy popcorn we know and love.
