Creamy tomato Parmesan sauce in a shallow bowl topped with grated cheese, parsley, black pepper, and olive oil, served with a spoon.

Ingredients:

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 onion, small, finely diced
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • Squeeze of lemon juice

Method:

Start Cooking
  • Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  • Add the diced onion and cook for 4–5 minutes until soft and translucent.
  • Stir in the garlic and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  • Add the tomato sauce and let it simmer for 3–4 minutes to deepen the flavor.
  • Pour in the heavy cream and stir until the sauce becomes smooth and evenly pink.
  • Add the grated cheese and stir until melted.
  • Season with salt and black pepper.
  • Finish with a small squeeze of lemon juice to brighten the sauce. Simmer 2–3 minutes until slightly thickened.
Serving ideas
  • This sauce works well with: baked chicken strips, grilled chicken, pasta, roasted vegetables, rice bowls. Bon appétit.

Notes:

From the kitchen
  • Use a good-quality tomato sauce for the best flavor.
  • Let the sauce simmer a few minutes before adding the cream so the tomato base develops a deeper taste.
  • Once the cream and Parmesan are added, keep the heat gentle to prevent the sauce from separating.
  • If the sauce becomes too thick, add a splash of pasta water, milk, or broth to loosen it.

Make it yours
  • Add a handful of fresh spinach to the sauce during the last minute of cooking and let it wilt.
  • Add sautéed mushrooms for an earthy flavor.
  • Add chili flakes for a little heat.
  • Mix in fresh basil or parsley just before serving.
  • Use mozzarella instead of Parmesan for a milder, stretchy sauce.
  • For an extra creamy and slightly thicker sauce, stir in 2–3 tablespoons of cream cheese until fully melted.

At the table
  • Pasta: Toss the sauce with your favorite pasta for a quick creamy tomato pasta.
  • Grilled Chicken: Drizzle the sauce over grilled chicken breasts or thighs for a simple, flavorful main dish.
  • Chicken: Stir in baked chicken strips for a quick creamy chicken dish and serve with rice, pasta, or crusty bread.
  • Chicken & Pasta: Combine sliced baked chicken with pasta and coat everything in the sauce for a hearty one-pan meal.
  • A simple green salad, crusty bread, or roasted vegetables on the side helps balance the richness of the creamy sauce.
